ABOUT KEDRON DESIGN
The first Kedron cards went to press in August 1979, but the story really began before that. For nearly seven years, I had been painting tiny house portraits . . . traveling through New England by paintbrush. As an itinerant painter, my commission list was growing rapidly. It was at this point that friends and family persuaded me to reproduce some of the originals.

From a collection of twenty-five Boston portraits, I selected ten for print. That series excited me to explore another part of New England, its seaports. While my eye was busy "collecting" nearby houses, I could imagine my subject geographically stretching from coast to coast. A camera soon became companion and sketch pad . . . and has recorded images from Maine to Texas. Travel has brought home tiny vignettes of Scotland, Ireland and England. Wherever I go, my brushes are not far behind.

It does seem that one thing has naturally led to another. From Smith College, where I was an Art History major, I moved to Cambridge and worked under the direction of Edwin Land in color research at Polariod. Painting and photography merged and from this, came a sense of design. I moved on into graphics next, and then to assemblage work. Now that painting has gone to color press, all of these disciplines have happily combined.

As a company, we are pretty close to our roots. Kedron is a family business inspired and fed by collective imagination. Three generations share input and ideas. A love of old houses has brought out the preservationist in us. Kedron has become an architectural record-keeper, saving impressions and setting them in print. We have been told that our product is unique, its whimsical viewpoint refreshing.

Kedron is growing in directions that mirror the high quality of our printing. Laser separations meticulously printed in 4 color, closely reproduce the original paintings. We still believe that handmade products are the best and supervise all of the work from start to finish.

In 2003, I began to translate my printed images to wool. Now there are more than fifty rug patterns and a dozen pillows. Our designs are uniquely "Kedron", worked in 100% wool that has been richly tweeded and blended to replicate my muted palette. Some say my signature is in the color, others say, in the graphics. Perhaps the combination lends them a storybook quality that defines them as folk art. These decorative pieces are now widely collected as portraits of the American scene.
